Job description
Media24 Weekly Magazines, publishers of Huisgenoot, YOU, DRUM, Huisgenoot-Pols, YOU-Pulse, Huisgenoot-Tempo, TV24, Heat, Landbouweekblad, SA Jagter and Farming SA, have a vacancy for a Business Development Manager with a special interest in and understanding of digital media. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of magazines on the web and tablets, and be able to identify, investigate, propose and manage print, online, mobile, tablet and app opportunities.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
The Business Development Manager will:
- Compile strategies and business plans for digital, print and brand extension projects
- Produce plans and scenarios at both digital and business levels
- Manage web and social media platforms
- Manage third party relationships for all digital properties
- Project manage specific digital platforms and brand extensions
- Identify and develop commercially viable services and revenue streams for the digital platforms and print products
- Conduct research and analyse statistics regarding internet usage patterns
- Monitor and expand existing business, and generate new business
- Consolidate existing clients and identify opportunities to increase the market share of our brands
- Compile and review monthly management reports
- Write budgets and business plans
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND APTITUDES
- An appropriate postgraduate qualification and at least three years' working experience in a relevant field (IT server infrastructure and journalism experience an advantage)
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and MS Office
- Comprehensive understanding of multimedia development
- Excellent project-planning and organisational skills
- Thorough knowledge of online and mobile technology
- Previous work experience in internet and mobile services
- Ability to identify and commercialise opportunities within the print arena through the conceptualisation and execution of brand extension projects
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with diverse personalities and situations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing personal development in a continuously changing environment
- Keen insight into social media networking and social spaces
- Practical grasp of applications like Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
- Proficiency in future planning and scenario writing (scriptwriting and copywriting experience an advantage)
